Dentures are artificial teeth that we create here at Gentle Dental Care. They’re one of the restorative procedures we offer, along with dental bridges and implants. There are two types of dentures: full and partial.
Full dentures, as the name implies, are used to replace an entire row of teeth. At Gentle Dental Care, we can set you up with a full denture for the upper or lower teeth. Partial dentures, on the other hand, are simply used to replace a few missing teeth rather than an entire row. Both types of dentures are removable. You can visit our dental clinic today if you need dentures service in Lansing, MI.
People don’t always see the importance of replacing missing teeth. We always recommend replacing any missing teeth as soon as possible for various reasons. First, teeth maintain the structure of the mouth and face. If you have a missing tooth, other teeth might start shifting, leading to gaps. Alternatively, having several missing teeth can affect the entire mouth.
Older patients missing several teeth need to replace them due to the risk of malnutrition. They might not be able to chew and eat properly if several teeth are missing. Using full or partial dentures is important, so they get all the calories and nutrition they need to stay healthy.
Dentures used to be made of porcelain and plastic, but recently we switched to hard resin to create artificial teeth. Polymer or softer resin is used to create the base and the structure that supports the artificial teeth.
Partial dentures are usually attached to nearby teeth using clasps. Full dentures are attached to the gums using suction or an adhesive. Regardless of the type, you’ll be able to remove your dentures and put them back on with ease. Dental bridges and implants are fixed and can only be removed at the dentist’s office.
We usually recommend patients keep their dentures on for extended periods when they first get them. Later on, you should take them off in your sleep and put them in a glass of water.
